| Compared with the traditional universities, it did not only happen in China that modern universities degenerated. There is a problem which modern universities face how to do between tool reason and value reason, it has developed very sharply in the universities in our country. The utility of value orientation is the result of instrumental rationalism overwhelming value rationalism such as worshiping technology, material, and indulging in enjoyment among most of college students. It has brought them confusion in both value and mentality, which has highlighted that college students lost humanistic spirit. The reform of general education did not produce significant effect in Chinese universities. Therefore, it is necessary which the result of humanistic education is inspected in the universities, and which we must find out the right balance between tool reason and value reason.This paper consists of three parts:The first part describes the historical evolution of and thinking on humanism. Firstly this part inspects the two source of human spirit of Chinese and Western civilization, and then along the track of the evolution history of humanism, respectively inquires humanist movements in Chinese and Western history, and compares the general character and individuality of the humanistic spirit, sum the relationship between humanistic spirit and education and social development. It want to gain some useful inspiration from that.The second part comments human quality of college students. This part studies the basic social and campus environment which affect mental growth of college students, and preliminarily analyses their humanistic spirit from the surface to the spirit. Then it investigates humanistic spirit of college students by a number of examples and data, and tried to find out some reasons.The third part discusses the resources and paths of humanistic education. On the reference to the resource of humanistic spirit, this part discusses how to inherit the humanistic spirit among the cultural traditions of China and The West. Then it excavates humanistic resources from religious thoughts, educational theories and the confrontation between science and the humanities in the modern and contemporary West. On the possible path of college humanistic education, it explores the possibility of reconstruction of university spirit and return to education ideal. |
