With the rapid development of network and embedded system, digital images have been used widely in modern society. With the huge size of the image, now the compression technology of the digital image has become the core of the application. Till now, JPEG compression standard is the most widely used since it's released in 1992. However, now people are not satisfied with JPEG any more, so the organization JPEG make out a new compression standard of digital image, which is expected to take place the traditional JPEG standard.From every aspect, JPEG2000 is prior than JPEG, especially it's progressive transmission and multi-resolution. Obviously, with the better performance, the algorithm of JPEG2000 is more complicated. So how to realize the JPEG2000 standard and how to get the best performance is the crucial of the application.Because of its complication, so it's realization is strict with the hardware platform. Normally the common embedded CPU can't meet its requirement while DSP can perform well.In this article, we discuss the realization of JPEG2000 on the TMS320C6711, and provide the test image to evaluate the performance. The result makes it clear that the JPEG2000 software got the pretty compression performance and execution performance which run on the TMS320C6711 DSK.
