Allergic rhinitis(AR) is a type of nasal inflammation which caused by allergens, the charicteristic symptoms of allergic rhinitis are rhinorrhea, sneezing, itching. Currently, global prevalence of allergic rhinitis up to 25%, and the prevalence on increasing trend, It has become a very common disease in clinic. Because of these symptoms of allergic rhinitis are seriously affecting the life quality of patients, so allergic rhinitis is regarded as one of the important disease on clinical study.According to the theory of traditional chinese medicine(TCM), allergic rhinitis is classified as“鼻鼽(Bi qiu)". Today, TCM treatments of allergic rhinitis has achieved good results. Especially, acupuncture treatment due to the low cost, easy to accept, less side effects, and gratifying clinical effect, has widely accepted by clinic in China. For more effectively acupuncture treat allergic rhinitis, this study based on the meridian diagnostic theory, search for ancient and modern document contents of treatment of allergic rhinitis, through statistical analysis of that results, from that investigate the precise site and acupoints of meridian examination of allergic rhinitis.Method:This study researched 24 ancient acupuncture documents, including The Emperor’s Inner Canon, Canon of Acupuncture and Moxibustion and so on. and also searched modern paper contents of allergic rhinitis treatment from 17 Acupuncture magazines in China, including Chinese Journal of Acupuncture and Moxibustion and so on.For the searching ancient documents, this study used the Chinese ancient medical books database search function of’‘中医e百网(www.tcm100.com)", search with keywords like“鼽(qiu:allergic rhinitis)",“清涕(rhinorrhea)",“嚏(sneezing)" and so on, which describes charicteristic symptoms of allergic rhinitis. For the searching modern documents, this study used the search function of CNKI(China National Knowledge Infrastructure:www.cnki.net), search with keywords like“过敏性鼻炎”,“变应性鼻炎”,“变态反应性鼻炎”,“鼻鼽”,“花粉症(Hay fever)" and so on.Results:1. After the searching for ancient documents, found 260 articles of AR acupuncture and moxibustion treatment contents from ancient acupuncture documents, the result involves 10 meridians,58 acupoints and total 303 acupoints times. This result involves three Foot-Yang meiridians, three Hand-Yang meridians, Hand-Taiyin, Foot-Shaoyin, Du medirian, Ren medirian. And according to this result, ancient acupuncture treatment of AR mainly uses head and face section, arm section and leg section’s acupoints, and these acupoints includes Shangxing(上星;DU 23), Yingxiang(迎香; LI 20), Fengmen(风门;BL 12), Heliao(禾髎;LI19), Xinhui(囟会; DU 22), Baihui(百会; DU 20), Suliao(素髎;DU 25) and so on.2. And found 92 papers of AR acupuncture and moxibustion treatment from modern acupuncture magazines in China, the result involves 13 meridians,6 extra acupoints,64 acupoints, and total 687 acupoints time. This result involves three Foot-Yang meridians, three Hand-Yang meridians, three Foot-Yin meridians, Hand-Taiyin, Hand-Jueyin, Du meridian, Ren meridian and some extra acupoints. And according to this result, present acupuncture treatment of AR mainly uses head and face section, back section, arm section and leg section’s acupoints, and these acupoints includes Yingxiang(迎香;LI 20), Shangyingxiang(上迎香;EX-HN8), Hegu(合谷;LI 4), Yintang(印堂;EX-HN3), Zusanli(足三里;ST 36), Feiyu(肺俞;BL13),Fengchi(风池;GB 20) and so on.Conclusion:1. By results found that the acupoints number amounts of Yang meridians is more than Yin meridians. Yang meridians treats external syndrome, excessive syndrome and heat syndrome, it means that AR is mainly an excessive syndrome.2. Acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of AR mainly related with 5 meridians, Large intestine meridian of Hand-Yangming, Stomach meridian of Foot-Yangming, Bladder meridian of Foot-Taiyang, Gallbladder meridian of Foot-Shaoyang and Du meridian, and involves some extra acupoints like as Shangyingxiang(上迎香;EX-HN8), Yintang(印堂;EX-HN3).3. By results found that acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of AR mainly related with head, face, back, arm and leg section.4. According to the above results, we can summerize the precise site and acupoints of meridian examination of allergic rhinitis as follows:Large intestine meridian of Hand-Yangming in head and face, mainly use Yingxiang(迎香; LI 20) and Heliao(禾髎;LI 19); in arm section, mainly use Hegu(合谷;LI 4), Erjian(二间;LI 2), Sanjian(三间;LI 3), Pianli(偏历; LI 6), Quchi(曲池;LI 11).Bladder meridian of Foot-Taiyang in head and face, mainly use Tongtian(通天;BL 7),Cuanzhu('竹;BL 2), Chengguang(承光;BL 6), Yuzhen(玉枕;BL 9), Qucha(曲差;BL 4);inback section, mainly use Feiyu(肺俞;BL 13), Shenyu(肾俞;BL 23), Piyu(脾俞;BL 20),Fengmen(风门;BL 12), Ganyu(肝俞;BL 18); in leg section, mainly use Zutonggu(足通谷;BL 66), Zhiyin(至阴;BL 67), Jinggu(京骨;BL 64),Kunlun(昆仑;BL 60), Chengjin(承筋;BL 56), Chengshan(承山;BL 57), Feiyang(飞扬;BL 58).Gallbladder meridian of Foot-Shaoyang mainly use acupoints in head and face, like Fengchi(风池;GB 20), Toulinqi(头临泣;GB 15), Chengling(承灵;GB 18).Stomach meridian of Foot-Yangming in head and face, mainly use Juliao(巨髎;ST 3),Dicang(地仓;ST 4), Sibai(四白;ST 2), Touwei(头维;ST 8), Xiaguan(下关;ST 7); in leg section, mainly use Zusanli(足三里;ST 36), Lidui(历兑;ST 45), Fenglong(丰隆;ST 40), Neiting(内廷;ST 44)Du meridian in head and face, mainly use Shangxing(上星;DU 23), Xinhui(囟会;DU22), Baihui(百会;DU 20), Suliao(素髎;DU 25), Shenting(神庭;DU 24), Shuigou(水沟;DU26); in back section, mainly use Dazhui(大椎;DU 14), Mingmen(命门;DU 4).And acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of AR involves some extra acupoints in face section, like Shangyingxiang(上迎香;EX-HN8), Yintang(印堂;EX-HN3).Just like as Lingshu records, Meridians and acupoints not only has treatment function, It also can reflect pathological changes of body. So, meridian examination is very important in clinical acupuncture treatment.
