This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one is a review on the constituents and pharmacological activities of E.thymifolia. Chapter twosummarizes the constituents and pharmacological activities of E.royleana. Chapter three discusses the chemical constituents from E.thymifolia. Chapter four deals with the chemical constituents from E.royleana.By means of modern chromatographic and spectroscopic technology,20 compounds were isolated and identified from the above plants. Among them,15 ones are isolated firstly from them. These compounds covers triterpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolic constituents, etc.The first chapter summarizes the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of the E.thymifolia since 1990. It is found that the main chemical components are flavonoids, triterpenes, tannins.Pharmacological activities inlcude anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antivirus, and antidiabetes, etc.The second chapter summarizes the chemical components and pharmacological activities of the E.royleana since 1984. The main chemical components are triterpenes, diterpenes. This plant is used for the treatment of inflammatory, analgesic, and pyretic, etc.The third chapter discusses the chemical constituents from E.thymifolia, which is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Jiangxi, and Fujian Provinces, and the tropical and subtropical regions around the world.E.thymifolia, as a folk herbal medicine, has a variety of therapeutic effects, whichcan be used for the treatment of skin itching, cure malaria, eczema, and hemorrhoids. In order to understand the chemical constituents of its pharmacological effects, we studied the constituents from E.thymifolia, collected in Xishuang Banna Region, Yunnan Province. Finally,13 compounds were isolated from the petroleum ether part of the 80% acetone extract of E.thymifolia. These compounds were identified as 3β,7β-dihydroxy-4a,14a-dimethyl-8β,9β-epoxy-5α-ergosta-24(28)-ene(1), cycloeucalenol (2), cloart-23Z-ene-3β,25-diol (3),3β-hydroxy-24-methylenelanost-8-ene-7,11-dione (4), lupeol (5), ursane (6),daucosterol (7),aurantiamide acetate (8),apigenin (9), diisobutyl-O-phthalate (10), diethylhexyl phthalate (11),10-Z-methyl heptadecenoate(12), glycidyl stearate (13). Among them, compounds 2-5,8,10-13werethefirst examples from E.thymifolia.E.royleana, belongs to Euphorbiaceae, grown natively to Eastern India. It can be applied to treat traumatic injury, stopping cough, and asthma in children.7 compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate extracts of the 70% acetone extract of the E. royleana in the last chapter. These compounds were identified as allantoinl (14), pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (15),4’-methoxy quercetin (16), quercetin (17), 3,4-dihydroxy benzoic acid (18), caffeic acid (19), and inositol (20). Except for 17,all of the others were isolated from E.royleana for the first time.
