It has been more than100years since the music began to develop inthe20thcentury. Music of modern style has gradually become the mainstreamin the professional music creation, among which there are various orchestraworks. The modern orchestrations have been applied widely during theircreation.The modern orchestrations have something in common with thetraditional orchestrations, but they also differ in some ways. The modernorchestrations can be seen as the reform and development of the traditionalones. It has inherited the essences of the traditional ones and made someinnovations as well. In this way it provides people with multiple andexcellent music colors and sound effects.This paper will have a thorough analysis of the different version ofPictures at an Exhibition recomposed by Ravel and Yu Jingjun. Bycomparing the different orchestrations, the author will elaborate theinheritance and innovation in the modern orchestrations from thetraditional orchestrations. Therefore, we could have a better understanding ofthe history and structure of the inheritance and development in the modernorchestrations from the traditional orchestrations, which will offer somecertain significance for the current music creation.
