Silk String Quintet is a new folk chamber music performance type created by Mr.Hu Dengtiao in1960s. By using five distinctive traditional Chinese instrument,including Yangqin, Liuqin(or Zhongruan), Pipa, Zheng, and Erhu(or Gaohu), leveragecombing skills of Chinese traditional chamber ensemble and Western stringed musicensemble, Mr. Hu derived this ensemble performance type, as it were a combinationof traditional, modern, classic, and fashion. Hu’s Silk String Quintet not only bringsout all the instruments’ potential, but also amplifies the performance type and playingskills of instrumental music.Zheng plays a significant role in Silk String Quintet for its changeful timbre,wide range, and diversified techniques. The author tries feel the artistic appeal andperforming experience by combing the performing experience of herself and concreteanalysis of Zheng’s part. This article has three parts: the first part is the art of Zhengin Hu’s Silk String Quintet; the second part is the corporation of Zheng and otherinstruments in Silk String Quintet; the third part is the difference between Zhengsolos and quintet. Through these three parts, we can feel how to take full advantagesof Zheng in Silk String Quintet, what to consider when performing Zheng, and how toperform perfectly. Also, the author hopes to give some inspirations when performersplay Hu’s Silk String Quintet.
