Teaching Chinese intensive reading aided by both comprehensive reading andwriting courses makes students grasp some vocabularies, sentence patterns andChinese culture by comprehensive reading practice. Furthermore, using vocabulariesand sentence patterns they have learned, students can improve their writhing too. Soreading and writing are combined together naturally. At the same time, writingpractice also helps students have a better understanding about corpus and applicationof characters, phrases and sentence patterns. The thesis will mainly research anddiscuss the teaching methods of elementary reading and writing course for teachingChinese to speakers of other languages by the following research aspects: analysis ofthe textbook used in the author’s class, analysis of the teaching object, teachingexploration of reading segment and writing segment, etc. There are five chapters:1. Introduction: present research situation and problems of elementary readingand writing course for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages are analyzed.Methods in details about how to improve students’ ability of reading and writing,enforce teaching efficiency of reading and writing course, help students improve theirlearning are presented and discussed according to the author’s practice.2. General situation of textbook of elementary reading and writing “DevelopingChinese----Elementary Reading and Writing Course II”: the textbook chosen in thethesis is “Developing Chinese----Elementary Reading and Writing Course II” which isthe latest one and in its probation period. Characteristics of textbooks of teachingChinese to the speakers of other languages are elaborated by analyzing construction,features of the textbook, advantages and disadvantages in practical application,arrangement of teaching periods and teaching objectives.3. General situation of overseas students in Class2of Chinese School of Xi’anInternational Studies University: connection between individual differences ofoverseas students and their Chinese level is further explode by analyzing overseasstudents’ number, nationality and class performance.4. Teaching methods of reading in elementary reading and writing course for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages: some traditional teaching methodsfor elementary reading, such as reading aloud and silently, reading by following theothers and by yourself, reading alone and together are elaborated. Teaching effect ispresented through teaching practice.5. Teaching methods of writing in elementary reading and writing course forteaching Chinese to speakers of other languages: some teaching methods, such asdictation exercises, Chinese character writing, impromptu writing in class, etc. areintroduced. Problems are found and solved by practice of these methods in class.Research and exploration about the teaching of elementary reading and writingcourse for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages have not taken too muchtime. The author’s teaching experiences are not rich too. Exploration and discussionof teaching methods in elementary reading and writing course might be hinderedbecause of the above reasons. However, in the thesis, through the author’s ownteaching practice, students are organized to carry on different activities in differentteaching models and segments which strengthen the teacher-student interaction in theclassroom and enhance the students’ learning enthusiasm. Furthermore, diverseknowledge is developed from different aspects and texts. The thesis providesbeneficial inspiration for cultivating the students’ Chinese reading and writing abilityin teaching mode of thinking, as well as a certain reference to improve the teachingefficiency.
