Matazo Kayama(1927-2003)is one of the Japanese outstanding artist in modern times.They were been called "Five Great Mountains" in Japanese painting area,togetherwith Suguiyama Ning, Tatsuo Takayama, Kaii Higashiyama and Ikuo Hirayama. Heretained the spirit of traditional Japanese culture, meanwhile,established his ownunique artistic language and style.He has been succeed in the field of Japanesepainting, printmaking and designing, and with no restrictions and constraints in hispainting creation. he tried different painting styles early or late, such as abstract art,Romanticism, Surrealism, Expressionism and so on. However, he is especially famousfor Lin garde screen pantings and Ujiko-e style body painting, which has great impacton modern Japanese painting. As the first generation of Japanese artist who enteredinto Chinese painting area, Kayama taught at Central Academy of Fine Arts as avisiting professor for three times, which promoted the development of modern chineseclaborate-style painting and heavy-color painting.This thesis will analysis Kayamafrom aspects of artistic experience, the language of painting, meterials and techniques,manisfestations and personal impact, which will bring the thinking and exploration onthe concept of modern chinese painting, meterials, techniques and other aspects. Ihope that through this thesis research,individual and other colleagues will be inspiredand helped in painting techniques discuss, innovation of artistic language and so on inthe future.
