The novel by Bai Xianyong and its film adaptation as the main object of study, this article aims to take us re-enter Bai Xianyong’s world of the creation. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the article is divided into three chapters.The first chapter discusses the reason that Bai Xianyong’s novels become the favorite of film adaptations. In visual culture today, the contents of Bai Xianyong’s novel cater to the demands of the modern time, at the same time, Bai xianyong’s novels have a strong sense of image, including the use of color, music, stream of consciousness, which is convenient to use directly when the novels adapt into films. Besides, the reason why the director favored is the drifting and nostalgia contained in the novels.The second chapter analyses several Bai Xianyong’s novels that adapt into the films. The adaptations have the difference of time and the region. The length, mood and other sides of the novels bring some difficulties of adaptation, which requires high art literature to the screenwriter and director. Different directors,different expressions effect. The article aims to discuss characteristics of the themes, characters, plot, narrative structure and other aspects through comparative analysis of Bai Xianyong’s novels and the adapted film which are Jade Love, The Last Night of Madam China, Crystal Boys, Love’s Lone Flowers, The Last Aristocrats and My Rice Noodle Shop, in order to re-examine the creation of Bai Xianyong.The third chapter explores the significance of the marriage of Bai Xianyong’s novels and adaptations. Through the study of Bai Xianyong, looking back the development of visual culture today, we can think the living space and adaptation strategies of literature especially novel.
