The Secret History of the Mongols is not only the unique literature treasure in Mongol history and linguistic study, but also a Mongol ancient literature classic. The literature study on The Secret History of the Mongols is an important part of the overall study on this magnum opus, which is also continuously focused by scholars. This thesis, based on previous literature study on The Secret History of the Mongols, mainly studies the narrative art of this magnum opus which has been rarely studied. This thesis consists of four parts, introduction, main body, conclusion and references. The introduction part mainly introduces the reason why I chose this topic, the current situation of this research, the significance and methodology of this research. In the main body, the first chapter discusses the injunctive narrative art through analyses of paragraphs such as the story of Queen Alan Qo’a teaching sons with five arrow-shafts, Hoelun rebuking Temujin, and Koko Chos and Kasar rebuking Chagatai, pointing out that the article skillfully used historical legend and figures of speech such as simile and comparison and it puts injunction into artistic narration. The second chapter analyzes paragraphs in which Genghis Khan sends his envoy to reprimand Wang Khan, Sangkun, Altan, Jamukha, Toghrul and further discusses the reprimanding narrative art in The Secret History of the Mongols. It points out that Genghis Khan’s ways of reprimanding vary according to different target. He either let them reprimanding themselves or reprimanded them directly, so that the artistic effect is easily achieved. The third chapter analyzes the narration of the cause of Jamukha’s failure and Genghis Khan’s punishment on Jamukha, and then discusses the causal narrative art, pointing out that the author’s clear and vivid description of this historical event skillfully created an artistic effect that ended all bad blood between Genghis Khan and Jamukha. Conclusion points out that the narrative art in The Secret History of the Mongols differs from other essays. It’s plain language reflects neat narration, which has both the artistic effect of a prose and a convincing logical content.
