A Study Of Chinese Winding Language

As a special language form labelled twisted and fun, tongue twister is broadly applied in areas like phonetic training and Chinese teaching to speakers of other languages, and plays an important role in language life. This thesis mainly researches on Chinese tongue twisters, analyzing and describing it from phonetic, lexical, grammatical, rhetoric, language and cultural aspects, to reveal the full view of its language. This research is of great significance on fostering a comprehensive understanding of tongue twister language features, as well as guiding real language practice.This thesis is composed of three parts—introduction, main body, and conclusion, with the main body consisting six chapters.The introduction part mainly points out the research background and significance of Chinese tongue twister research from linguistic aspect, introduces the research methods, and presents the history and current situation on linguistic research of Chinese tongue twisters.For the main body part, chapter one concludes the emergence and development of Chinese tongue twisters, respectfully introduces the definition, emergence, formation, development and changes of tongue twisters.Chapter two analyzes phonetic features of Chinese tongue twisters, explaining the reasons of the twisted phonetic form from five aspects:the features of initials, finals, tones, rhythms, stops, and rhymes.Chapter three summarizes lexical features of Chinese tongue twisters. The features reveal as employing many temporary words, and using words without considering the color meaning and context, to cooperate the twisted phonetic form.Chapter four concludes grammatical features of Chinese tongue twisters, which appear as providing a large number of repetition and omission, and using special grammatical forms, to outstand the twisted form.Chapter five introduces different rhetoric ways and some specific rhetoric forms which serving for the twisted phonetic forms in tongue twisters. Chapter six presents contrasts between Chinese and English tongue twisters to highlight the features of Chinese language and culture which are revealed in tongue twisters.The conclusion part makes a comprehensive summary of the features presenting in tongue twisters, repeats the significance of the linguistic research on Chinese tongue twisters, and points out the deepen problems in the thesis.
