As a special class,"Shi" bears the cultural mission.lt occupies an importantposition in traditional Chinese culture and society. As Mr Yu Yingshi says: Inheritanceand innovation of culture and thought is the central task for "shi"of all along. In the"spring and autumn period and the warring states period, the emerging "shi class hasgradually ofrmed，and mature in terms of character and temperament. Mencius，as atypical example of the freshman class, he inherited Confucius’s noble legacy that"shi’’ interested in”dao”，and laid down the fundamental value for freshman class tomaintain in "mencius", and explained an important feature of the new class，namelyrational consciousness. Based on it, this article aims to discuss the basic situation offreshman class from a cross-sectional during the warring states period in"mencius".Analysis on the "bad" special period the new class’s active evolution andgreat changes of political and economic status. It is focused on highlighting the newclass’s personality characteristics，value and spiritual significance based on analyzingtheir connotation,spiritual character and social responsibility. The Ultimate goal is toprove for the freshman class.The article is divided into three parts:The ifrst part briefly expounds the evolution of "shi" in the history, and analyzethe meaning of "shi" in "mencius", and deifne the connotation of mencius’s freshmanclass.And then from the social division theory of labor and official legitimacy itdemonstrates the identity of this emerging groups. AT the same time it highlighted thespecial characte of the new group.The second part discussed the spirit character of”shi” i"n "mencius, mainlyanalyzes four aspects: in the way of righteousness; In righteousness in politics; miseryand consciousness and good at cultivating vital "qi". Through four aspects it revealsthe new class’s Individual consciousness.The third part point out the new class who has rational consciousness and specials""pirit character undertakes the responsibility, thus to discuss shi has theresponsibility to teaching the monarch and the public.
