Ukiyoe is the precious heritage of Japanese national art. Its emergence and development are closely related to social, historical, cultural and economic conditions of the Edo period. It represents the aesthetic taste of the major citizen stratum, in which the female creation theme paintings in Japan called "beauty painting", while in the China, known as the "painted ladies". As can be seen from the history of the "Lady painting" and "painted ladies" works, both in the artistic and aesthetic features of artistic expression is different, showing the different cultural backgrounds of the two countries on the Eastern understanding and awareness of female beauty. Retrospective cultural history of China and Japan, it is easy to see that Chinese culture plays a significant role in the history of Japanese Ukiyoe paintings emergence and development and has a profound influence on them, especially when the early Japanese Beauty painting had learnt many artistic images and styles from Chinese Lady painting. This article will elaborate the history of Ukiyoe and Japanese Ukiyoe beauty painting, style features, the famous artist, history influence and understand the development of Japanese Ukiyoe beauty painting. This article mainly focuses on the analysis difference between Ukiyoe Beauty painting and Chinese traditional brushwork painting and the similarities and differences in the form of artistic expression, in order to understand the Ukiyoe Beauty painting and it in the traditional style China fine brushwork painting, which was extended from China has characteristics of the Japanese painting art. Through the research on the aesthetic characteristics of the Ukiyoe Beauty painting, we can understand the communication between Japanese art and Chinese and Western art of the Edo period. Moreover, it inspired us to think about how to draw inspiration and innovation in painting creation.
