Childhood education is very important to children’s future. In this period, children’s books plays an indispensable role in the elementary education, intellectual development and cultivate good habits. Not only can the content of children’s books affect child’s thinking habits and the sensitivity of the image information, but also the exterior design, the cover color matching, the material senses and taste in art influence child’s interest and their learning motivation. Books of high-quality design can make children appreciate the pictures as well as understand and remember them, which is beneficial to childhood and elementary education. Otherwise, monotonous books is hard to motivate children’s interest, if the design lacks of scientific and diversity. As China’s "talent rejuvenating" strategy put into effect, various books in the children’s educational market also began to keep getting better. Especially in recent years, parents are concerned more about their children’s education, so children’s books markets are popular. Kinds of children’s books have sprung up in the market, but good and bad books are mixed together. Some books have plain covers, which is difficult to attract children’s attention; some books are dull in color and unscientific in color matching, as well as lack of reasonable design and appreciation; some material are rough, which is caused by lack of understanding children. Faced with this situation, this paper, from a psychological point of view, analyze the child’s preferences and divided children into several different period of development by age, to study their behavior, their psychology and their characteristics of identifying things, in order to summarize the different preferences in different period of development for further designing appropriate children’s books; Secondly, this paper also study books which is designed to children’s growth, including how to break the traditional shape, master the rhythm of color and graphics and use materials and processes to increase the diversity of children’s books; last, this paper contrasted analyzed child psychology and the design of children’s books from both a vertical and a horizontal direction. I hope to provide some basis for diversified designs of children’s books and I can contribute my part to the children’s book industry.
