The Alienation Of Elite Culture Under The Challenge Of Popular Culture

In the1980s, China started opening to the outside world. After the reform,abundance of material goods and the development of science and technology hasbrought a great increasing of peoples living standard, they asked higher requirementsof spiritual culture. The mass culture is rooted in the market economy and it is morefit for the market demand， such as leisure entertainment, spiritual culture. Themass culture developed very quickly and has become the social mainstream cultureand the pillar industry.It improved the peoples daily life and at the same time brokethe pattern of elite culture which has unified the whole country for a long time.The development of mass culture has brought a great change of thecontemporary background, including the development of culturalindustrialization and cultural diversity, the old and new media coexist, etc. Itadvocated all-round senses entertainment, popularization of the public recognitionwhich has gradually changed the present situation of the social culture which wasmonopolized by the elite intellectuals in old times.Now ordinary people also cancontact with the culture.Under the background of the elite cultures dominantposition has been threatened, the survival of elite culture is in trouble.In order tosurvive, a series of changes have taken place in Elite culture to fight for the massculture.It begins the travel of“alienation”.After the“alienation”,elite culture towards to the popularization,entertainment, and it almost becomes the member of mass culture. And that, inreturn, erodes the elite culture, attract more elite intellectuals to turn into a "star".Absence of elite consciousness, the spread of popular culture is obviously harmful tothe development of the society, may lead to moral landslide, the values of chaos, thespread of entertainment and a series of problems.In order to cater to the demand ofthe market at the same time, elite culture has been criticized by a lot of professorand other people for its obviously mistake.This paper tries to explore the current situation and difficulties of eliteculture,then analysis the the alienation of elite culture, finally through the analysis of specific examples to demonstrate my view and puts forward problems andSuggestions. This article is divided into four chapters: the first chapter, i will try toexplore the origin of "alienation" concept, and understand the elite culture. Thesecond chapter will try to show the present background,difficulties of elite cultureand performance of "alienation" of elite culture. The third chapter uses a typicalexample "lecture room" to show the alienation of elite culture. The fourth chapteranalysis a series of problems which has caused by less of elite culture, then putsforward the solution to the problem.
