Studies Of Mass Culture And Elite Culture In Chinese Internet Culture

The rapid development of network information technology has brought new production and lifestyle to human society, and has expanded the space of the cultural activities of the human spirit. Combination of human social life and network technology gave birth to a new network culture morphology, which opened up a new field of culture for human society. Through the medium of Internet and the commercial operation mechanism, Internet culture began to filter into the society on a large scale, which profoundly affected the current people’s lifestyles and leisure time, occupied most of the temporary community’s cultural life space and changed the cultural trends of the contemporary society.Against the background of modern context, mass culture of network has a very important impact on people’s social life, Internet not only opens new era of human social life, but of cyber culture construction as well. Chapter1is From the academic vision of Frankfurt school to examine the mass culture of our country’s network culture. This part elaborated the characteristics of mass culture from the "Culture Industry" theory of the Frankfurt school and socio-historical background of our country. On that base, we construct a basic framework for understanding the mass culture, namely technical features and subjectivity characteristics. We not only affirmed that Internet mass culture has great importance on accelerating the development process of Internet cultural plurality and establishing the cultural subjectivity of social community, but also criticized the mechanical duplication and alienation in the Internet. Chapter2is From the academic vision of Frankfurt school to examine the elite culture of our country’s network culture. This part is mainly from the characteristics、social significance and present situation to confirm that elite culture has certain instructive effect on cyber-culture construction, but we also criticized the shortcomings of elite culture, such as overweening attitude, denying the mass culture and one-sided pursuit of artistic originality, which makes the art become so obscure that out of the audiences’ ability to accept; furthermore, propose to strengthen the construction of Internet elite culture. Chapter3is talking about the construction of harmonious Internet culture. This part is mainly from the perspective of how to coordinate the relationship between mass culture and elite culture, so that each of them can play a positive role and reduce their negative effect, to propose effective ways to build a harmonious Internet culture. the effective ways are:Attach great importance to the elite culture development of the Internet; strengthen cultural education to improve the cultural quality of the Internet users; using a variety of means to display elite culture and strengthen the management of the network, standardize the development of mass culture.
