Gu Qing (1460—1528), courtesy name Shilian, assumed name Dongjiang, wasborn in Huating, Songjiang District. With high prestige in the court and the folk,he isupright and noble and has learned knowledge and rich works. His literary creationand artistic features have a typical significance and an important position in themiddle Ming dynasty. This paper carried out the study on Gu Qing’s familybackground, biographies, acquaintanceship and his poems and articles, trying tosupplement the existing limitations of the study and seek a breakthrough.It is composed of four chapters:Based on the relative literatures, the first chapter mainly carries out research onthe biographies of Gu Qing and the reasons for the thriving of his fame. It points thatthe unique family tradition, the great family expectation, humanistic culturalatmosphere, and the wide range of acquaintanceship promotes and prompts the Gussuccess.The second chapter carries out research on Gu qing’s acquaintanceship.Academia has carried out little research on Gu Qings acquaintanceship at present.The first segment makes a textual study on Gu Qing’s acquaintanceship with histownsmen and the second segment makes a study on his acquaintanceship withcolleagues in the court including Li Dongyang, Wang Ao, Mao Cheng and Luo Qinshun.It finds out that his acquaintanceship has great impact on his behaviors, politicalcareer and literature creations.The third chapter mainly discusses Gu Qing’s literary ideology. Firstly, the thesisexplores his ideas in order to point out his understanding and development of“literature carrying Tao”under the impact of neo-Confucianism, analyze his articles aswell as interpret his opinion of “nature help”. Secondly, the thesis studies Gu Qing’spoetic thoughts. on one hand, the content and essence of “main affection theory” inpoetry will be stated, on the other hand, the outward expression of “main affectiontheory” will be discussed from the point of the important of poetic art and the causeof “main affection theory” will be analyzed which is influenced by the thoughts of his master Li Dongyang and the ideas of Chaling school. in other word, it isinfluenced by Xin-Xue thought.The fourth chapter mainly talks about the artistic characteristics and culturalconnotations of Gu Qing’s poems. From the perspectives of culturology and sociologyand based on the specific creation environment, it points that Gu Qing’s poetry stylewith many special images is similar with that in Glorious age of Tang Dynasty. Richand profound cultural connotations can be reflected from his writings on tea culture,southern cultural characteristics and hermit.
