From "unimaginable" To Oscar Awards

To adapt literature into film is always an important choice for film creation. Since the date of birth, film grows up with nutrient from literature. For the past several years, more and more film production is adapted by literature, but the quality is not as high as the number. Until the end of2012, LIFE OF PI (Pi for short below) appeared to make up the vacancy of quality by the dual feeling of visual feast and mind washing.This article based on the view of art transformation between literature and film. Take advantage of the theory of communication, literature and art, the theory of film to analysis the course of adaption of PI by Ang Lee. Find the regularity in the practice, and provide the method, enrich the theory for film adaptation. This article is divided into preface and three parts to discuss the film adaptation of Ang Lee. The preface is an introduction, mainly analysis the current situation of the adaption between literature, film and the research situation of the adaption of PI, introduce the purpose and meaning of writing. First Chapter discuss the similarity and differentia of literature and film, then conclude essential feature of the novel which is easy to adapt, and through this feature contrast with PI, and we can know that the novel of PI is not easy to adapt into film. That’s the contradictory and key point. And the second chapter will give us the answer, analysis the course of film adaption of PI and find the originality of Ang Lee. The Last chapter mainly states the enlightenment from Ang Lee’s film adaption.
