When Nanking was occupied by the enemy on December13,1937, the Japanese army began to slaughter the unarmed citizens wildly, they committed all manner of crimes,including burning, killing, rape and robbery, people were in an extreme terror and despair. Fortunately, there were more than20westerners stayed in Nanking, organized and set up the NanKing International Safety Zone for International Humanitarian Spirit during the Nanking Massacre, It was like the light in the dark for refugees facing the slaughter. The inescapable refugees had to dive into the International Safety Zone because of the economic poverty, and then became refugees,there were250000refugees at most, how was such a large population survived in the lack of supply of Nanking at that time? What about their living conditions? They are the problems the author trying to solve in this article.This article first starts with the situation of refugees of the International Safety Zone, summarizes the reasons and conditions of the form of the International Safety Zone, the location and quantity of the refugee camps, the number of the situation of refugees,in order to have a overall cognitive of the Safety Zone and the refugees; Secondly, this article discusses and evaluates the basic living conditions of the refugees, including food, accommodation, security, medical and health care,it’s the core part of this article,reappears the refugees’life under the Japanese army’s reign of terror;Finally, this article makes further analysis of the refugees’living conditions, reveals the huge psychological trauma brought to Chinese people by Japanese invaders, analyzes two sides of the refugees during this period, and praises the high International Humanitarian Spirit of the westerners. At the same time,we can some enlightenments from this article, The lives of people should be respected at any time; We should resolutely resist the behavior that the Japanese right-wing deny the war of aggression against China and the Nanking Massacre;furthermore, the spirit of International aid should be actively developed no matter when and where. |
