Emotional Display Rules (EDRs) are a set of rules forming during children interacting with the environment. People can tell children’s ability of social adaption through their usage of EDRs directly. For it’s always have close relations with the local culture and conventions, it is necessary to explore it in our own culture to get our native conclusions. Family emotional circumstance is one of the important components that influence the development of EDRs of children, and the interaction of parents and children plays an important part in this component, while there are few results of the relation between parent-child relationship and the EDRs. So, there are mainly two researches in this study:First, investigate the development of EDRs of our local children; second, investigate the influences of family emotional circumstance and parenting styles to the EDRs of our local children.By making conventions and delivering questionnaires, this study investigated90children of6-to10-year-old. Results showed that:(1) Children would master more knowledge of EDRs with age, and there were no significant gender differences;(2) Children would have more and clearer goals of using EDRs with age, and there would be more social-oriented goals than self-oriented goals;(3) Different from some foreign results, local children not only use EDRs in negative emotional circumstances, but also use them in positive emotional circumstances. And they use more social-oriented goals in positive circumstances;(4) Family emotional circumstances affected children’s EDRs, children’s family emotional circumstances had a close relation to the parenting styles, but the parenting styles didn’t have a great influence on children’s EDRs.In summary, as children grow older, they tend to use more EDRs. Children would start to use EDRs in positive emotional circumstances when they grow older, and their goals tend to protect others’feelings and the social conventions. There is a close relationship between family emotional circumstances and parenting styles, and the family emotional circumstances have a great effect on EDRs, but there is no close relationship between parenting styles and children’s EDRs. These results could be supplements of the native researches in this field, and they could also inspire the cross-cultural psychological researches and the education of children’s emotional socialization.
