This dissertation studied the laughing behavior of3to6years old preschool children occurred in kindergarten. Adopted qualitative research method, the data in this study was collected through on-site observation. The trigger mechanisms of laughing behavior of those3to6years old preschool children were analyzed from three aspects as following: the object of laughter (i.e. laughter’s referent), the situations eliciting laughter, and the subject of laughter (i.e. laughers). Meanwhile, the value and significance of laughing behavior and the relationship of laughing and preschool children education were discussed. The dissertation is consisted of seven chapters. Chapter one is an introduction of the rationale and significance of this study and a review of the domestic and overseas researches on laughing behavior. Chapter two presents the design and process of this study? defining the key concepts and elaborating the research purposes, questions, data collection methods, the selection of research objects, and data analyzing methods. The research findings include four parts, Chapter three reports the first research finding which is the analysis of the object and referent of laughter. The second research finding is represented in Chapter four. The situations eliciting laughter including activity scenes and the social environment of them are analyzed. Chapter three, the third research finding, analyzes the characteristics of subject of laughter including age, gender, social experience, and psychological states. Chapter six gives suggestions on kindergarten education after discussing about the value and significance of preschool children’s laughing behavior. The last chapter is the conclusion of the procedure and findings of this study and a discussion of the limitation of the study and the direction of further researches. This study came to a conclusion to answer the core question "why do children laugh?", that is, the occurrence of the laughing behavior is a two-way activation process between the subjects and objects of laughter. The objects must have the characteristics which are able to stimulate the subjects laughing, in return, the subjects must have the mental states to recognize, understand, and appreciate the absurdity of the objects and during which, the situation allows them to do so. Laughing occurs only when those requirements met. To put it more clear, the stimulus of laughing is of the characteristics of inconsistent; laughing happens in a game, harmless, safe and sudden situation; the psychological mechanism that a laugher should have includes the feelings of superior, mismatch of recognition, or the release of an inner power, or both of them.
