An Experimental Study On The Influence Of Field Dependence Cognitive Style On Edge Perception

This research applied the Vienna Test System (VTS), and A2×2×2×2mixed factorial design was adopted. Cognitive style (field-independent, field-dependent), Gender (male, female) and driving experience (experience, non-experience) were between-subject variables. The edge stimulating region (region one, region two) was within-subject variable. The aim of this study is to explore the distinction of edge of vision perception between drivers and non-drivers who have different cognitive style.Results showed that:(1) For the reaction to edge stimulation, the correct rate of subjects who have driving experience was significantly higher than those who have non-experience(F=45.917,p=0.000). The difference of the reaction time was not significant (F=1.020, p=0.317).(2)For the reaction to edge stimulation, the reaction time of field-independent subjects was significantly lower than field-dependent subjects(F=6.405, p=0.014). The correct rate of field-independent subjects was significantly higher than field-dependent subjects(F=121.050,p=0.000).(3) For the reaction to edge stimulation of different position, the reaction time for stimulation position one of subjects was significantly lower than that for stimulation position two(F=57.383,p=0.000). The correct rate for stimulation position one of subjects was significantly higher than that for stimulation position two (F=194.244,p=0.000).(4) The interaction of cognitive, diving experience and stimulate position was significant about correct time(F=7.731,p=:0.007).Conclusions:(1) The ability of Edge visual perception of male is better than female.(2)The ability of Edge visual perception of person who has driving experience is better than those who have non-experience,and with the angle of the edge stimulation became increasingly bigger, driving experience is more important to improving the ability of Edge visual perception of field-independent person.(3) The ability of Edge visual perception of field-independent person is better than field-dependent person, And with the angle of the edge stimulation became increasingly bigger, the ability of Edge visual perception of field-independent person is more noticeable.
