A Comparative Study On The Artistic Features Of Huizhou And Suzhou Traditional Dwelling Houses

China’s vast territory, diverse natural environment, the economic development and humanistic ideas in different areas are not the same, folk houses have different characteristics in the long process of development. It is a concentrated expression of people’s thoughts. Window carving as a regional architectural decoration art, it’s the outstanding representative of China traditional folk culture.This paper is a comparative study on window carving, between the representative and well preserved Huizhou and Suzhou traditional folk houses. As everyone knows, Huizhou has been called "the hometown of Cheng Zhu", Confucian thought is deeply rooted in Huizhou folk’s mind, the window carving in Huizhou also reflects the Confucian ritual thoughts. Suzhou has many literati in history, the window carving reflects the active thinking of the literati, it gives people a fresh feel. The window carving of traditional folk houses, as the essence of traditional decoration art, the retained data is not much in history. The author hopes that through the comparison of the window carving in several aspects, make people pay more attention to the difference between the regional culture.The full paper is composed of the following five parts:The introduction part introduces the research status of Suzhou and Huizhou window carving art, and the research purpose of this paper.Chapter one introduces the traditional window in China, and the window types in two areas.In the second chapter, I select typical window carving, from the subject selection, the composition forms and the decorative style of the window carving in two areas, to make a comparison in this paper.The third chapter make a comparison from the choose material and sculpture techniques of the window carving.Fourth chapter combines the political factor, economic development, regional culture and other factors, to analyze the reasons for these differences.Window carving is an important part of traditional folk houses in China, it is an important way to make a research of regional culture, we study its profound cultural background and abundant cultural connotation to make it more worth researching.
