This paper focuses on the research of flower and bird paintings by Shi Lu, especially on the analysis of artlanguage of the paintings. it has been being discussing the artistic characteristics of Shi Lu’s paintings andtheir influences on nowadays circle of flower and bird painting. By analyzing Shi Lu’s flower and birdpaintings and his life experience, the thesis makes out the conclusion that his unique painting featuresformed at his late age, which bears the style of “novelty”,“rigidness” and “wildness”, greatly differingfrom the traditional literati painting style. Many successors from the Chang’an shcool, like Xiu Jun, WangZiwu, Jiang Wenzhan, Zhang Zhiguang and Chen Zilin, inherited or imitated Shi Lu’s painting stlye andtechniques in their early ages. Eventually they have formed their peculiar style. Therefore, Shi Lu’s flowerand bird paintings have a profound influence on contemporary flower and bird painting circle in Shaanxi.The study of Shi Lu’s flower and bird paintings has theoretical significance on the whole flower and birdpainting circle in China through the twentieth century.
