Ars subtilior is a deeply complicated music style which was born in Avignon at the end offourteenth century.It is prevalent from the end of fourteenth century to fifteenthcentury,approximately between the ars nova and the newer styles of music practiced by theBurgundians in the early fifteenth century.Ars subtilor is not only the continuation of themedieval tradition,but also has the complexity that beyond the other creations of the age.Arssubtilior is active with its unique form of tradition and innovation at the turn of the century onthe stage.This paper consists of three parts:The first part describes the context of the ars subtilorbirth,and presents the background conditions from three aspects,the turbulent society、cityliterature development、and musicians living state at the end of fourteenth century.The secondpart analyzes the continuation tradition of the ars nova in ars subtior.In some respects,genericstructure and creative techniques in ars subtior are to the interitance of the existedaccomplishments.The third part analyzes the subtle art of Avant-garde to explore thecharacteristics of its innovation from the graph notation and complicated musical techniques.
