The development of Chinese modern poetry has experienced three stages:barren naive budding (1919-1927), extensive exploration (1928-1936), the development and mature (1941-1949), gradually from immature to mature. The Chinese modernist poetry of Forty age was the peak of Chinese modern poetry, which is different from the romantic lyrical style eruption, but also different from the1930s’ modernist style, but a more intellectual thinking of life. Explore the forties modernist poets, especially Southwest United poets, it is not hard to find that the theme of poetry and the creative skills are deeply influenced by Western modernism poets.while the key figure who brings western modern poetry to china is William Empson. We can say it is Empson’s teaching, which makes the poet who also tangled college can not find a way out of the development of poetry in romantic whirlpool find a good example. Their interest began to shift to modern literature, poetry began to change to a deeper "modernist". This thesis attempts to sort out and explore, especially the impact of Empson on Chinese modern poetry of1940s. To re-examine and define Empson is an important role in the development of Chinese Poetry.The thesis is composed of three parts, the introduction, the text, the conclusion, among which text is divided into four chapters.The introduction From origin:Chinese poetry in the1940s has changed:namely the gradual decline of romanticism, modernism momentum into the sky talk.And then analyze the reasons for this phenomenon, and find the key players-Empson. After sum up the research on the topic, we provide the thesis’s research methods and ideas.Chapter one Introduces Empson’s life and poetic achievement. On account of the thesis is talk of the relationship between Empson and Chinese modernism poetry, so so this study is focus on Seven Types of Ambiguity and semantic analysis criticism, the poetic achievement before Empson go to China.Chapter two In this section,we introduce the relationship between Empson and China.firstly, introduced in the influence of Empson, brings a wind of" modernism ", and then further analyze the underlying causes of Empson poetics and teaching impact on Southwest poets, namely the Western modernist poetry theory and the trick is how to enter into the context of modern Chinese poetry. By Empson found "Ambiguity" as the intersection of Chinese and Western Poetics in poetics.Chapter three We points out the impact Empson on Chinese modern poetry and poetics. In this chapter discusses Zhu Ziqing’"poetics of new solutions" and Yuan Kejia’"modern poetry".Empson’s " Ambiguity " theory were compared research, which shows the relationship between the origin.And draw a conclusion that Empson’s " Ambiguity " theory is the fountainhead of Chinese modern poetics.Chapter four From the perspective of poetry creation, analysis the forties modernist poets and Empson and other Western modernist poets, clear that Empson’"Ambiguity" theory impact on Chinese modernist poets, especially southwest poets.The conclusion Based on the study of Chinese and Western’s Poetics and modernist poetry, we can clarify that the effects of Empson’s poetry and the teaching practice is very important. Empson is an important role in the development process of China poetry. In cross-cultural perspective, the elucidation of the formula reveals two-way influence between Empson and Chinese culture and its localization.
