Strategies of translation involve the basic tasks of choosing the foreign text to be translated and developing a method to translate it. As I have been teaching for years and have a strong interest in education, I choose multicultural education as the original text. This paper explores the background of the two strategies:foreignizing and domesticating. It suggests that technical translation is fundamentally domesticating. It is constrained by the exigencies of communication. Literary translation, in contrast, focuses on linguistic effects. Therefore, foreignizing strategies are implemented. This passage is a social science text. In order to convey as much as possible the linguistic effects of the original text, foreignizing strategies are adopted. Then, this paper sums up some difficult and distinct sentences and phrases in the translation from Chinese into English. Also, it analyzes the translation procedures in terms of syntax and semantics. Both of the analyses suggest that the diverse methods aim to achieve closeness between the original text and the translation.
