This paper is composed of two parts:Translation and critical commentary. The original text is a short story written by Nianzhen Wu, a famous Chinese director and writer in Taiwan. This short story tells the complicated relationship between the author and his brother by using plenty of dialogues that are filled with informal language, loose sentence structure and implicit words that can only be truly understood through the context. The critical commentary is based on the discussion of strategies in translating dialogues in this short story and tries to provide a new example for translating dialogues in short stories. |
