This is a report based on the E-C translation cooperation project between the Guilin Research Center for Government Digit Dissemination and Culture as a Soft Power and Guangxi Normal University.Nuclear security is not only a military issue, but also a matter of world peace.Due to its particularity,it is extremely important to pay attention to the nuclear relations between the US and China, promote nuclear security exchanges and communication and increase mutual understanding between the two major countries. Therefore military English translation plays a vital role on national security,so the author chose to translate an excerpt part of The Tenth China-US Dialogue on Strategic Nuclear Dynamics,an article written by Ralph A.Cossa,Brad Glosserman and David Santoro, published in the journal Issues and Insights in December 2016.The original text consists of two main contents.First,it elaborates the key findings of The Tenth China-US Dialogue on Strategic Nuclear Dynamics and second,it describes the conference report of the dialogue.According to Newmark's text typology theory, the author had analyzed the original text, and discovered that the original was not only an informative text and expressive text, but also characterized by a vocative text,so the author translated the source text by adopting Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation methods, under the guidance of translation principles of accuracy, smoothness, and readability as well. This translation practice report is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction to the translation project, including the project's source, significance, requirements and an introduction to the report structure. The second part describes the preparation for it,including an analysis of linguistic features from the aspects of vocabulary, syntax and discourse, the searching and reading of parallel texts, team work, and the difficulties the author encountered in the course of translation. The third part expounds Newmark's text typology theory and two translation methods: semantic translation and communicative translation. In the fourth part, the author has analyzed a number of cases from the lexical, syntactical and textual levels. In the fifth part, the author makes a summary of the translation practice by figuring out the solutions to difficulties, making reflection, summarizing the enlightenment, pointing out the limitations of the practice and putting forward suggestions for future study.Through this translation practice, the author found that the pre-translation preparation, including an analysis of the linguistic features of the source text and the reading and analysis of the parallel texts,is of great significance for the translation practice.A good preparation is the key step to express accurately the original information in the source text to target readers.
