A Study On The Theme Sentences In

Based on the previous studies of Topic-comment sentences, the author proposed a detailed and scientific Corpus of categories of sentence pattern by means of database software, according to the principle of "Phrase Chunk as Basic Element, Logic as Linking Device, and Fulfillment of Expression as Sentence Boundary", also aligned with the standard of categorizing of "Functions as the essence and forms the subsidiaries." The author categorized exhaustively the Topic-comment sentences of the Records of the grand history of China in an introductive approach in order to deepen the understanding of the grammatical features, grammatical meaning as well as pragmatic value of the Chinese topic-comment sentences.Then on this basis, the author compared the Topic-comment sentences in Records of the grand history of China with the ones in Zuo Zhuan (a Chinese chronicle written by Zuo Qiumin) and in Well (a modern Chinese novel written by Yan Geling),trying to describe the development of Topic-comment sentences.
