Paper as the basic material of Chinese ink painting has been playing the role ofbearers in the past thousand years. Paper has also been developed as the evolvementof ink. From the early hard, thick and rough hemp paper to the late soft, thin, pale andsmooth pelure paper, paper itself has undergone a process of development with inktogether since about a thousand years ago.Wei Jin southern and northern dynasties began to use hemp paper, Sui and Tangdynasties utilized paper in massive ways, the Five, Song and Yuan dynasties replacedsilk with paper, Ming Dynasty pteroceltis parchment has been manufactured which ismost suitable for ink painting, the technology of making paper and ink regressedrapidly In the Qing Dynasty. In the course of development, paper has always beenunknown, however, never resisted its situation. But, in fact, the possibility of paper inthe ancient age has never been fully developed. As the material of ink painting, as thebearer of the language of Chinese painting, or even as the bearer of Chinese culture,paper has never been explored its connotation actively.Today, contemporary art has already came into people’s horizon, who are no longersatisfied with language of the traditional ink painting. Thus, the possibility of paper isextremely worth considering by us.
