German Foreign Policy And Practice After The Cold War

Germany has a pretty long history of cultural diplomacy and rich culturalresources. Germany was defeated in the World War Ⅱ, but he soon got the alliance’strust, reshaped the national image and got rapid development in economy mostly viasuccessful cultural diplomacy.On October3rd,1990, German Democratic Republic and The Federal Republic ofGermany unified. After unification, the status of Germany in the world promotedsignificantly, which leads it to one of the European powers; however, Germany had toface with the dramatic changes of international situation. Compared with the ColdWar, the cultural diplomacy of unified Germany inherited the concepts of culturenation and multilateral cooperation, while Germany has gone through its sublation,and inherited part of restraint culture. Based on the past experiences and changinginternational situation, Germany has formed a system theory on cultural diplomacy.Its diplomatic dialogue and contents have enlarged and adjusted, but the core andessence has not changed. Therefore, the unified Germany not only formed a newcultural diplomacy mechanism, but also made innovation in practice pattern.
