| Stephen Chow Sing-Chi, as a milestone in Chinese comedy movies, has become a memory of generation, especially the worm with distinct characteristics that he portrayed in the film is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. The protagonists in his films always have humble status, diversiform personality, ugly appearance and exaggerated or humble speech and act, thus once severely attacked by many critics, but the fact is that these works was deeply loved by the audience and enduring. How This kind of protagonists overthrow the traditional image one by one and have been successfully abnormally shaped into a series of unique images, and why the images can grab the audience’s heart. this thesis will try to find its theoretical basis from Bakhtin’s carnival theory, and excavation the ways how these comedy movies figures implicated ideas of Bakhtin carnival theory.This article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the present situation about domestic and foreign researches of carnival theory and Chinese comedy movies, then preliminarily explains the direction, meaning and characteristics of this article. The second chapter mainly discusses the carnival characters of personality in comedy movies, which respectively analyses the marginalized identities and the contradictory characters. The third chapter analyses the carnival expressional forms of characters from actions, images, languages of comic characters. The fourth chapter researches the carnival of environment from space-time and humane environment. The fifth chapter summarizes the positive and negative influences of comedies on contemporary life. Through analyzing the carnival characteristics of the characters in Stephen chow’s comedy movies, this article not only enlarges the application of Bakhtin’s carnival theory, but also provides a theoretical fulcrum for shaping the future characters in comedy movie. |
