The Unity Of Destiny And Virtue

Scholars who studied the humanity theory of Wang Chong, an ideologist who lived in the Easten Han Dynasty, not only summarized the main viewpoint of the theory as “Fatalism”, but also interpreted the relationship between the fixed humanity under the rule of Fate and the posterior improved behaviors of trying to change it as a contradiction.Actually, more than not only no contradiction exits between the fixed humanity and the posterior improved behaviors at all, it is just what Wang Chong had been trying to demonstrate in his theory all through.The main point of this paper is to expound the inner structure and theoretical significance of Wang Chong’s humanity-theory in three aspects. Make it concretely, they are:1.The theory-structures of the Fate and the posterior improved behaviors;2.The congenital basis of the humanity can be improved by posterior behaviors;3.Which aspects are the behaviors including and How they work.In the first part, I plan to discuss the theory in two aspects, the Fate and the behaviors, to analysis its inner structure. In the Fate-discussion aspect, I will place the emphasis on the explanation of the immutability of Fate. And in the behavior-discussion aspect, the key point will be set on the possibility and fasibility of people’s posterior improvements.In the second part, a more embedded study will be unfolded on the basis of the first part. Congenital evidences that the humanity can be improved will be demonstrated in this part. And after this, it seems to be natural of people improve their inborn humanity by taking proper posterior behaviors.In the third part, we can make a further discussion about all factors in inner structure of posterior improved behaviors itself after clarifying the key concepts in Wang Chong’s theory. Among all factors, learning regularity and cultivating morality are the most essential ones, because the former one can make people wise and the later make peace when facing the uncertain fate.All in all, in my opinion, the so called contradiction between fate-fixed humanity and the posterior improvements is two sides of the coin when people facing the outside world and themselves.
