Jailbird is the best work of Kurt Vonnegut in the 1970s who is the representative of black humorists. The book satirizes different aspects of American society in a relatively direct way, mocking American politics, education, science, law, religion, etc. Satirical fictions have a time-honored history and their influence is enduring. Jailbird employs the technique of postmodern narrative, black humor, self-mockery, science fiction, etc. The theme of novel is revolutionary, which lies in revealing real incidents and denouncing celebrities. After the comparison with other satirical fictions and a detailed text analysis, it proves that Jailbird surpasses traditional satirical fictions in terms of theme, content and technique.
