Orhan Pamuk is one of Turkey’s most prominent novelists and a recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature. His work shows the social and cultural status quo of contemporary Turkey, and let the world know this country which has a long history and unique culture background. Faced with "Eastern" and "Western"problem in the modernization process, and based on the research of Pamuk, this thesis focuses on "Museum of Innocence" and its unique objects narrative, and systematically explores this new type of writing. This thesis consists of three parts. The first part:Introduction. This part introduces Pamuk’s life and his ten literary works, analyzes the current situation from home and abroad, detailedly states the significance of the topic, the ideas and the methods, and then gets the key word "objects narrative".The second part:Main body. This part consists of three chapters. Chapter Ⅰ emphasizes on text analysis. By analyzing the "human affairs" of the characters, this chapter discusses the collector Kemal who finds consolation from objects related to his beloved Fusun, while through the miserable love between the hero and heroine with disparate social ranks, this chapter presents readers "two faces" of Istanbul. Chapter Ⅱ utilizes the discussion of memories from Proust and the theory of time from Bergson to analyze the fact that the hero recalls memory and let the past enter present and the moment become eternal through the medium---"objects". The hero collects objects to proceed "conscious memory". Finally love memory has ended in one kind of religious emotion, which gives Kemal life-long happiness in belief. Chapter Ⅲ mainly discusses the aesthetic implication of this kind of objects narrative. Objects narrative learns from the characteristic of Islam miniature, which gives the whole novel an exquisite charm. The "authenticity" of the object solves the ambivalence of the novelist who is naive and sentimental at the same time. Finally, the most direct function of the objects is to remind people the lost time. While between the grief and happiness of love lies the feeling of "sentimental".The third part:Conclusion. This part summaries the unique role of "objects narrative" in Pamuk’s works.
