Nasal and nasalization is one of the most important topics in linguistic research experiments. More than 99% of the world’s languages have nasal vowels and consonants, according to statistics. Nearly all languages have nasalized vowels. Shanghai dialect has oral vowels and nasal vowels,Fenghuang Miao have normal nasal consonants and prenasalized consonants. The research objects of this article are the monosyllables or polysyllables which contain phonemes of one nasal phoneme in Shanghai dialect and Fenghuang Miao. In the process of the nasal phoneme pronunciation, nasal airflow will invade the phonemes which adjacent. The goal of this paper is to compare the ratios of anticipatory and carryover phenomena in the behaviour of the velum during the pronunciation. Tautosyllabic or inter-syllabic nasal coarticulations are investigated in different contexts, comparing different vowels and consonants types in order to do more in-depth research of the coarticulation process. The aerodynamic data of anticipatory and carryover phenomena in Shanghai dialect and Fenghuang Miao are compared roughly. The experimental results show that, the Shanghai dialect and Fenghuang Miao have their similarities, but also have their differences. For example, in both Shanghai dialect and Fenghuang Miao, the ratios in high vowels are higher than that in low vowels. The height of the tongue directly affects the ratio of intrusion. As for the consonants, the ratios of the nasal airflow invading the neighbouring phonemes will be low in obstruent consonants, especially voiceless ones, but the ratios will be high in lateral consonants and approximant consonants. The differences between Shanghai dialect and Fenghuang Miao is that the ratios of invasion to the phonemes are higher in voiced consonants than in voiceless ones in Shanghai dielect. But in Fenghuang Miao, the ratios are higher in aspirated plosive consonants and affricate ones than in unaspriated ones. The capacities of the nasal airflow intruding to the neighbouring phonemes will also be influenced by places of articulation, as in Fenghuang Miao, the alveolar nasal consonant has the strongest capacity of invading phonemes as compared to the bilabial nasal and velar nasal consonant.Besides, the ratios of the vowels will also be affected by the roundness or unroundness and the frontness or backness of the vowels.
