On The "Cultural Memory" Aesthetics In John Bass' S Novel Creation

The core viewpoint of this article interprets "Cultural Memory", John Barth placed great emphasis on the memory function. It is an advanced conception of history which reviews, judges, sublates and surpasses the historical heritage. Narrative forms of parody and retell used to review the literature. It provided an aesthetic viewpoint for readers to enjoy the works and comprehend author’s unique thinking. Furthermore, Cultural Memory reflects author’s most creations of his self-awareness and experimental introspection between the society and ego. The thesis will use the method of theoretical comment and empirical study to prove my point of view. According to the Barth way of retelling to interpret "The Literature of Exhaustion" and then modern creations will be transcended by exploring and sublating traditions, make a concrete analysis of the historical conception, semiotic construction, analyzed context and receptional aesthetics. Most readers has been inspired by reading John Barth’s work, which challenged the traditional view and normal standard. The main purpose of this thesis is to facilitate in-depth study of the Eastern and Western comparative literature, provide references and values for the creative practice of modern literature.
