| Guided by the Memetics, which explains the law of cultural evolution, the author explores the memetic phenomenon of language in Chinese media words, and probes into its translation strategy on the basis of intercultural communication characteristics of linguistic memes. Given the characteristics of memes’ rapid diffusivity and high replicability, translation of linguistic memes is of great significance in intercultural communication.In this thesis, the author first defines the denotation and connotation of linguistic memes and focuses on phenotypic media words in linguistic memes after summerising research status of language memes. The author probes into the problems in international communication of Chinese media meme words and then analyses the phenomena and the two reasons for mistranslations of these words: pragmatic reasons and semantic reasons. The author then puts forward some suggestions on translation strategies, including equivalent translation, explanative translation, omitting the memetic image, substituting the memetic image and cultural back translation with a view to offering some suggestions on the future translation. |
