Exploring The Mistranslation And Missing Translation Of Chinese Four-character Interpretation

Through the practical study of four characteridioms consecutive interpreting in Premier Li Keqiang's press conference,and according to the author's research onfivegraduate students majoring in interpretation from Heilongjiang University,the writerstudies interpreters' records and notes and classifies interpreters' improper performancein four character idioms ofPremier Li Keqiang''s government press conference,namely,zero translation,mistranslation.The writer analyzes the causes of student interpreters misunderstanding and missing translation in these conferences.Zero translation can be classified to two kinds: one is omitted zero translation,the other is wrong zero translation.Mistranslation also can be classified to two kinds: one is positive and the other is negative.Based on improper performance,the writer studied the simulate videoin order to find out the causes.The difference between Chinese and English language structure,and consecutive interpreting's immediacy are the main reasons of zero translation.Misunderstanding of source language and wrong words collocation are the main reasons of mistranslation.According to the causes and a large number of studies,the authorproposes the corresponding strategies,namely,full preparation,focusing on context during the translation process and capturing the essence of four character idioms instead of its literal meaning.Also,adding information and borrowing other English words are two effective ways to avoid misunderstanding and missing translation.The research of this paper will provide interpreter with some enlightenmenttofour character idiomsof certainpress conference or government report in the future study.
