Since 19th century, the Chinese traditional culture which once aroused the exclusive dignity and pride of the Chinese scholars gradually lost its confidence in Chinese people’s heart for the reason of the pressure from outside. However, the western culture, which once was transformed and assimilated by the advanced and strong Chinese culture gradually became the answer to how to save our nation. In such culture background, the eastward spread of the western culture had obviously been the source of truth of the modernization. At the beginning of the 20th century, Sir Yuanpei Cai once made a beautiful blueprint for the outlook of the Chinese arts education system. He put forward the thought of "the combination of eastern and western culture". The great master Fengmian Lin is the pioneer and promotor of such concept. He advocated people to accept the Western art and integrate it with the eastern one. Thus created the modern art. He insists on integrating the western modern art notion and the sacred site of Chinese traditional ink and wash painting, and involving them into the personal life experience. So that people can create a language of arts which build the bridge between west and east. A group of Chinese artists which have been deeply cultivated by the national culture, like Fengmian Lin, Beihong Xu, Yu Chang, Yuliang Pan and Dayu Wu, brought their dreams of arts and eastern culture to the center of arts of that time--Paris.Yu Chang, who was regarded as "the Chinese Martisse", is a typical figure, in the early period, among those Chinese artists who travelled to France to discover such combination. Also he is an art master who work for himself, for belief and for freedom. As time goes by, the light of those treasures gradually faded away. Because of this, as youth who devote to art creation and art study, we generation need to shoulder the responsibility to discover and study the great thoughts of those predecessors. However, in China, there is little research and achievements about Yu Chang’s painting arts. And almost all of them are about the study of its "decorative aspect". Therefore, this thesis laid emphasis on its "enjoyable aspect". The thesis was divided into three parts---introduction, body, conclusion. And the body part was divided into four parts. The first part for Yu Chang’s life background and the formation of his character. The second part for influence he got from the Chinese traditional culture. In the third part, his style of enjoyable has been deeply analyzed. And the fourth part elaborated the formation of his style.
