A Study Of Xunzi 's Thought Of Wang Ba

Xuncius was a famous thinker，politician and one of the representative personagesof Confucian School who lived in State of Zhao of the end of Warring States Period.Thesurname of Xuncius is Kuang and his title is Qing. At Xunzi ’s early age, he had a studytour to State of Qi and became an officer(the name of the official position is JiJiu) ofJixia Academy three times,then he became an official of Lanling Ling. Xunzi’s thinkingplays an important role in the history of Chinese Confucianism and thought.His ‘theoryof original evil of human nature’, Etiquette thought and thought of hegemonism stillhave a far-reaching influences. This thesis chooses the thought of hegemonism as aresearch object and tries to analyze the connotation of this kind of thoughtsystematically and analyze its change in the history of political thought of ancient china.Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism which based on the foundation of the thoughts ofConfucius and Mencius came up with its distinctive political thought through the way ofestimation and analysis of the connotation and social application of humane authorityand hegemony.This thesis is divided into four parts to study Xunzi’s thought ofhegemonism.The first part which bases on the historical background of the birth ofhumane authority and hegemony points out the historical origin of them throughintroducing the historical concepts of three sovereigns,five emperors, three kings, fiveoverlords and seven warring states.The second part sums up the connotation,characteristic of Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism and make a value judgment abouthumane authority and hegemony through comparing humane authority and hegemonywith tyranny in the politic,economic and personnel system aspects.The third part formsan comprehensive understanding about Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism through the wayof taking the thought of hegemonism of Xuncius and a hundred schools as a researchfocus and through the way of comparative analysis of different points of the thought ofhegemonism among Mencius，Xuncius and Guan Zhong and the different points abouttyranny between Xuncius and legalist school.The last part of this thesis mainlyelaborates the influences of Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism and explains the influenceof Xunzi’s the thought of ‘believing humane authority,dismissing hegemony’ to therevival of humane authority of Song dynasty，in addition,it also elaborates the influenceof Xunzi’s ‘humane authority also has other different effects’ to the politic of Handynasty and the succesive dynasties.so,this part sums up the very important historicalmeaning of Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism.Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism is not only an important component of Confucian culture but also plays an important role in the history of political thought of ancientchina. Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism influenced the hegemony activities of the feudalkings and played a positive role for great unity in the late warring states period.Last butnot least, Xunzi’s thought of hegemonism had a significant influence in the laterdynasties and profoundly altered political model of chinese ancient and nationalpolitical life,so, many thinkers and politicians in different dynasties value this thought.
