As a great philosopher during the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Fuzhi Wang, who witnessed the change of age and experienced the overthrow of the old government, decided to seclude himself in remote mountains and absorbed himself in writing. The aim of his writing, his famous work On Song Dynasty, also the focus of the essay, is to inquire the merits and drawbacks of the history and discover the logic of political regime, mainly through analyzing the politics of Song Dynasty. The essay includes three parts. The first part is mainly about the time background when he created the book; the second part indicates that the hypothesis of the regime change of Fuzhi Wang is based on his philosophical idea about Li and Qi. And his meditation presented in On Song Dynasty shows the long-existing principle of Confucianism. One significant concept is about the heaven that it does not predestine or design and it just maintains permanently. Another is about how the three divisions among the emperor, the prime minister and the officials could cooperate, coordinate and strike a balance in the administration system. And the other is about the criticism of the Dao tradition. Fuzhi Wang renders an insightful investigation on these issues along the Confucian tradition and develops his characteristic system. Furthermore, as for the governing ideology, Fuzhi Wang draws from the ’Zhujing’, which connotes letting the rules or the Dao function itself without human interference, and thinks highly of the ’Wuwei’ idea. The third part discusses his thoughts about the demise of Song Dynasty and his understanding of history. And he holds that though there are various reasons for Song’s perish, the core problem is the feudal hierarchy regime system.Via reviews about history, Fuzhi Wang makes penetrating reflections on political philosophy. The ideas about constraining the power of the emperor, the prime minister and the officials and the critiques of suspicion among the country as a family both illuminates his Humanistic Thought. Also his ideology is commensurable with modern political philosophy and would provide beneficial and advantageous references for the democracy of China nowadays.
