Xiao Yingshi School Notes

Xiao Yingshi is an important reform movement pioneer in Tang Dynasty, he personally experienced by the stability and prosperity of the Tang Empire from "Kaiyuan Spirit" to the war-torn "Rebellion".Since the strong feelings to the society,his literature are full of responsibility,and his thinking and creativity have a deep influence on posterity.Xiao Yingshi,who was used to be called Xiao Fuzi, had focused on developing many individuals.Since his works on propagandizing the restoration thoughts but struggling against the rhythmical prose characterized by parallelism and ornateness, the ancient literature movement became popular gradually.Xiao Yingshi has an encyclopedic mind, and has his own way of doing things in principle, while his career was full of ups and downs. From Xiao Yingshi’s article, we can read the his feeling of underappreciated that his loyalty to the country was frequently attacked by crafty persons. Xiao Yingshi created abundant works, but most of them are scattered and lost. After research the limited ones that are still retained, there are thirty-one articles.This paper is divided into three parts:The first part is the preface, which is a simple narrative of Xiao Yingshi’s life, and the impact of Xiao Yingshi’s works and literary movement. As for research monograph about Xiao Yingshi, there are three scholars who have studied. The first person is a Taiwan scholar Panlv Kee Chang, the second one is Dr. Zhang Weihong,and the third one is Zhang Shuzhen. According to the study research,this part will focus on the status version of the article and the origins and the survive contents, along with a brief description of the problems in research.The second part is the main body of the paper.It selects Xiao Yingshi’s articles which was included in the "Full Tang" as original,and takes the "Xiao Maoting Collection" in "Si Ku Quan Shu" as the scenario,then selects the "Cream", "Don Wencui" in the article which included Xiao Yingshi’s part as reference materials to conduct a comprehensive collation, punctuation, comment and interpretation on Xiao Yingshi’s articles.The third part is the appendix.Appendix I is "Under the old Tang Yuen · Xiao Yingshi Chuan"; Appendix II is the "New Tang Xiao Yingshi Chuan · literature and art"; Appendix III is "Xiao Yingshi Ji Wen"; Appendix IV is "Yangzhou Gongcao Xiao Yingshi corpus order".
