When overseas students study Chinese, they always ignore the study of the approximate number. However, the approximate number is a truly necessary part in language communication. This article has analyzed the bias made by the American students who major in Chinese when they study the approximate number. Then concluded some bias and why they made them in the process of learning. At last, it would summarize the appropriate teaching way fit for the American overseas students.The article used the methods of contrast, research and analysis to study how the American students learn for the approximate number. This article introduced the feature, effects and the ways of expression of the approximate number. Then illustrated the bias produced by the American students and analyzed the reasons of the bias according to the bias made by the students. After that the article would raise the ways how to teach the American students the approximate number. The emphasis of this article is the bias and reasons of the bias made by the American students and how to avoid the same bias in the later teaching process. At last, the article would make a conclusion on the basis of above states.
