The Beauty Of "God" Dancing - Study On Wa People 's Sacrificial Dance

Sacrifice dance is the most important part in the ethnic dance of Wa people, deeply rooted in their culture, occupying an extremely important position in their life. This unique dance contains abundant content; meanwhile it is the core of the spirit of Wa people. It is also the key to world of their culture.As a dancer, through doing deeply and carefully research, reading related theories of arts and works of dancing and aesthetics as well as some folk literatures related with this ethic group, I made and sorted out a comprehensive collection of the dancing score of the sacrifice dance with consulting those achievements of other similar dances at home and abroad, though we have to face the circumstance that there are not adequate study of it. In this thesis, I penetrate into the way of expressing sacrifice dance and connotation. Concentrating on the characteristics of combining human and gods, I attempt to analyze the beauty of movements, the beauty of art and the beauty of spirits contained in the holy dance.There are six aspects in this thesis including a preface, four chapters and a conclusion. The preface mainly focuses on stating the reason of choosing this topic, the purpose of this research and also displaying some related achievements, research methods and some creative opinions. The first chapter summarizes the history of Wa people along with their religious belief and the origin, types and social functions of the sacrifice dance. The second chapter analyzes the beauty of its movements. I will analyze this dance from three different angles like its costumes, stage property and its movement features. In the third chapter, the beauty of arts contained in this dance will be analyzed from its history, the meaning of life and its simplicity and its nature. Through the last chapter, the beauty of spirits in the holy dance will be stated from the angles of ethnic spirits and consciousness. Finally in the conclusion part, after summarizing those researches, my personal view on its future and its process of development will be clearly stated.
