Xuzhou, located at the junction of Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, Anhui Provinces,ancient name Pengcheng, used to be Xiang Yu the King of Chu’s Capital. Also, it is the place where Han Emperor Liu Bang was born. Far more than a military fortress, it was the political centre in that period. With this reason, Xuzhou is famous for its numerous Han tombs, and its Han stone portraits unearthed is one of the top five in China.This article is going to use the existing Han Dynasty stone inscription as research object involving inscriptions, the portrait stone inscription, stone inscription, epitaph tomb plug in a total of 15 pieces. By combing the stone inscriptions above, it illustrates that the stele in Xuzhou area mainly concentrated in the year 61 to 177, and majorly unearthed from Tonshan district. Further, the content of such stone inscription mainly narrated annals, the owner, achievement, date of died and was buried,construction costs, eulogy, teaching, self excitation et al. Their style are simple,unsophisticated and naive, similar with wood slips or seal characteras, they are free and fun. On the basis and with the use of comparing research method, this article deduced that the characters evolution of Xuzhou area emerged approximately from before 151 BC- Before 117. Indeed, Xuzhou area’s Han Dynasty stone inscription style is more or less connect with Eastern Henan, Lunan, Anhui and Shanxi stone inscription. In addition, in the comparison of the stone inscription and the extant black or red text, it infers that the development of Xuzhou stone inscription matured later than black(ink) text. However, Xuzhou’s Han Dynasty stone inscription give impress to its academic value by its numerous historical and literary displayed. Particularly in historical materials, for example, the style of writing in the annals, the supplementary resources of “History of the Han Dynasty” and “the History of the later Han Dynasty”,and the description of the prevailing social, economic status. While, one of the tomb stone in pizhou also appeared the value of literature for the rhyme foot.
