Note is an important style of ancient Chinese literature,belongs to thecategory of prose,which correspond to the poem.Note originated from Han dynasty,developed rapidly in Wei and Jin Dynasty. To the Ming Dynasty, the number of andspecies of note have greatly improved. In Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty,becauseof the revision of Si Ku Quan Shu, a large number of unofficial history of MingDynasty were destroyed,the number of surviving historical notes of the Ming Dynastystill rich. And the contents are extensive, including government affairs andanecdotes, laws, institutions, anecdotal trivia, social customs, and geography,etc. which have a high historical and linguistics value.Although notes are the authors’ scattered essays and miscellanea, they alsocontain abundant exegetical contents. Previous studies of note focused on thehistorical and vocabulary value,ignored the exegetical value. This paper selectedtwenty-one Ming Dynasty historical notes as the research object, analyzed withtheir exegetical materials.On this base,summarized their exegetical contents,methods and features.Also we analyzed the interpretations of some words tosupplement The Chinese Dictionary.This thesis is divided into five parts:The introduction part mainly introduced the definition,contents andcharacteristic,etc.And analyzed the unique research value and particularities ofthe Ming Dynasty historical notes. After widely collected the related materials,we also summarized the current research status of Ming Dynasty notes.The first chapter introduced the exegetical contents of Ming Dynastyhistorical notes, they were analyzed from five parts:denoting word, phoneticnotation,distinguishing character,phonetic notation,and explaining sentence.The second chapter discussed the exegesis methods and features of Ming Dynastyhistorical notes. The exegesis methods were analyzed from two aspects: the methodsof seek meaning and definition.Also,we summarized up the exegesisfeatures.First,the gloss terms of various kinds and the exegetical languages arepopular and easy to understand.Second, exegetical contents distribution isimbalance, most of the materials are denoting words. Third,the contents having the same characteristics are focused together to interpret and a small amount ofannotation is used.The third chapter discussed the values on compiling the Chinese Dictionary.Thescholars of the Chinese Dictionary used many materials of the notes when theyexplain the words,but still large amounts of materials, words or the meaningsof words had been ignored. Through our contrast between the Chinese Dictionaryand the materials of the Ming Dynasty historical notes, which could display andsupplement the Chinese Dictionary.The conclusion part summarized the full text further, and stressed the valueof Ming Dynasty historical notes.As an important literary type of the ancient China, the value can not be ignored.The Ming Dynasty historical notes, no matter from the quantity and the content,are all very rich.I hope that through this thesis, more scholars will realize theexegesis value of Ming Dynasty historical notes, and do a more in-depth study,which will further show the value and significance of the historical notes.
