Exploring The Shaping Of Characters In Chinese Classical Dance

It has been more than half a century since the creation of Chinese classical dancing, which contains extensive and profound cultural thoughts reflected from the long history. In classical dance works, to create vivid characters requires not only the dance language that fits the theme and emotion as the main means of expression, but also requires the combination of other favorable factors such as music, sets & prop and choreography. All of the elements will help to form the unique personality and typical meaning of the characters.Based on the historical images of the traditional characters and their aesthetic qualities, this thesis elaborates the characteristic style and features of the figures from ancient poetries and fresco paintings. It also analyses different artistic practices in characterization based on their ethnic styles and epoch characteristics.The author believes that Chinese classical dancing is on the path of continuous improvement and innovation. We should create characters with cultural thoughts and national sentiments to meet the contemporary aesthetic preference.
