Duri ng the Ming and qing dyna sties, compared with landscape pai nting and flower and-bird painting, figure pai nting is we ak, the deve lopment of the portrait of pr osperity made up for the inadequacy of the figure pai nting creati on. As a branch of figure painting portraits in the Ming and qing dynas tie s in figure painting history plays a decisive role. Ming and qing dynas tie s, because of the urban commercial and economic prosperity, pictorial t o huge development potential for the industry, make por trait i n folklore and profes sional development, there emerge many photo. Portrait of the objective need of social life, reality and ut ilitarian, obviously the portrai ts in the Ming a nd qing dynasties is a diversi fied, multi-l evel condition for the real re cord of the charac ters, and in some sense visually reproduce the l ook of the history of t he Ming and qing dynasties. The portraits in the Ming and qing dynasties in the abs orption of western painting techniques and such aspects as the fusion of painting language has made the beneficial attempt practice, has obt ained the amazing ar tisti c achievement, also for the mode r n arti st’s innovation practice provides a beneficial bas is. Its realistic characteristics and techniques of expression, is worth to explore contemporary artists.In this article, through combing the history of the portrait s in the Mi ng and qing dynasties, from cultural background analysis studies t he type s of t he portraits in the Ming and qing dynas tie s, genre, realistic techniques, and expos es t he main painter as well as the development of t he theory of art characteristics and innovation spirit,discusse s its calendar and realistic signifi cance. Chapter four disc usses in thi s paper.The first chapter and the meaning of the portrait hi stor ical or igins were summarized;The second chapter is the focus of this article, discusse d the portraits in the Ming and qing dynast ies main arti stic features; The third chapter di scusses t he portrait painting techniques of Ming and qi ng dynasties, innovation spiri t embodied in the ge nr e painter inherit ance; The fourth chapt er di scusses the practical significance of contemporary portraits in the Ming and qing dynasties, the analysi s and study i tspor trait of inheriting the innovative spirit of contemporary realistic significa nce and the positive influence. To come to the conclusion t hat the portraits i n t he Ming and qing dynasties on the innovation and development of the modern figure painting has an important reference and research val ue.
